“Free Ride”

In "Free Ride," Daffy Duck finds himself in a frantic race against Elmer Fudd, who’s determined to escape the duck’s antics by relocating to the supposedly unreachable summit of 20,000-foot Mt. Craggy—only to discover that the mountain’s rumored hermit might be more than just a legend. Written by Michael Maltese and brought to life with energetic art by Phil De Lara, this 1967 Western Publishing classic sees Daffy scrambling to keep Elmer from reaching the peak, all while the mountain itself feels like a character in its own right. The cover by Fred Abranz captures the absurd stakes with a perfectly pitched splash of cartoon chaos.

Elmer reads that ducks are unable to fly higher than 15,000 feet, so he decides to live on top of 20,000-foot Mt. Craggy to be rid of Daffy. Problem is that a hermit "wild man" is believed to live atop that same peak, prompting Daffy to do his best to keep Fudd from reaching the top.
