Curse of the Spawn #24

A brooding, atmospheric composition by cover penciler Dwayne Turner and inker Chance Wolf anchors this 1998 installment of Curse of the Spawn — a massive, cape-shrouded Spawn figure looms from above while grotesque demonic creatures claw and writhe around a glowing central form, all set against a murky sky dotted with black birds and jagged gothic architecture below. The painterly teal-and-gold palette gives the image a genuinely unsettling, hellish depth that suits the "Overt-Hell" story title perfectly. With interior work from writer Alan McElroy and a talented creative team including artist Clayton Crain and colorists Todd Broeker and Mark Nicholas, this issue looks every bit as dark and ambitious as the series at its best.
