“Death Trap of Mongo”

In "Death Trap of Mongo," a test pilot awakens to find himself in a surreal realm where a viking sailor and a young woman claim he’s entered a dreamer’s world after death. When the woman insists she’s not dead, the pilot realizes she may be in peril back in reality—and the two flee toward the safety of his jet. Cover by Gil Kane, this eerie tale from Joe Gill and Steve Ditko blends psychological tension with a haunting mystery, all wrapped in a 1980s British reprint edition.

A test pilot sees a viking sailor and a young woman standing outside his cockpit. He exits his plane to speak with them. The viking tells him that he has entered a "dreamer's world," where people like him end up when they die. The woman protests that she's not dead, and the pilot realizes that she must be in trouble in the real world. The pilot grabs her by the hand and the two of them make a break for the jet cockpit. Once he lands, she is nowhere in sight, but he finds her passed out in a room of dangerous smoldering chemicals. She revives and recognizes him as the man from her vision.
