“The Kick-Off”

Cracked's March 1988 Crime Fighters Convention is a wonderfully chaotic gathering, with John Severin's cover depicting a beleaguered Santa Claus caught in the crossfire as a gun-toting Sledge Hammer, a heavily armed RoboCop, Batman swooping in from above, and a trench-coated detective all converge on the poor gift-bag-toting intruder. The speech bubble — "You've picked the WRONG place to break into, Tubby!" — sets the irreverent tone perfectly, and with promised content targeting RoboCop, Clint Eastwood, and the Uggly Family, this issue is packed with the kind of sharp pop-culture ribbing that made Cracked such a reliable laugh in 1988.
