“The Devil Has Many Legs!”

Issue #101 of Marvel's long-running sword-and-sorcery series finds Conan locked in a desperate struggle atop a massive log or beam, grappling with a powerfully built opponent while an enormous spider lurks beneath them — its many legs giving the story title "The Devil Has Many Legs!" an immediate, visceral meaning. A woman in a bright pink dress recoils in terror nearby, skulls and bones littering the rocky gorge floor below, lending the scene a grim, perilous atmosphere. John Buscema's pencils, inked here by Bob McLeod, deliver muscular, dynamic figures with a raw energy that made 1979 Marvel fantasy feel utterly alive.
