Conan Saga #42

Earl Norem's painted cover for this September 1990 Marvel magazine says it all — a muscle-bound Conan sprawls across a field of skulls, sword at his side and fist raised defiantly, while a serpentine creature lurks in the gnarled, dripping foliage above him against a blood-red sky. The cover promises that inside, Roy Thomas, John Buscema, and inker Tony DeZuniga deliver "A Dream of Blood," hinting at something dark and surreal waiting for the Cimmerian. A solid entry in Marvel's black-and-white Conan Saga magazine line, and Norem's moody painted imagery gives it a distinctly haunting atmosphere.
