In the sun-scorched lands of Shadizar, Conan is drawn into a perilous quest when Khassek of Iranistan seeks his aid in retrieving the fabled Eye of Erlik. Their journey takes them through treacherous lands where the allure of the beautiful Isparana proves as deadly as any blade, and where shadows of sorcery and betrayal linger. Meanwhile, in Zamboula, a sorcerer’s gift—a cursed sword—unleashes a dark fate upon Akter Khan and a young woman of the Shanki people.

In "Erliks øye," Conan journeys to Zamboula with the sorceress Isparana to deliver the mystical Eye of Erlik to Akter Khan, only to find himself ambushed by the Yogites and rescued by the enigmatic Shanki. When the khan attempts to kill Conan and imprison Isparana, the Cimmerian allies with the nobleman Balad, whose claim to the throne may be the key to surviving the treacherous politics of the desert city.
