Civil War #1 (Director's Cut) #[nn]
Civil War Part One of Seven kicks off a defining era in Marvel history, setting the stage for a nation divided. When Nitro’s explosion kills hundreds and the government demands superheroes register under federal oversight, the hero community fractures—Captain America stands against the mandate, while Iron Man backs it, and the rift spreads through the ranks. With tensions boiling and allies turning to enemies, the war for freedom and control has officially begun. Written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Steve McNiven, the story unfolds with gripping intensity, and the cover by Steve McNiven captures the moment the conflict ignites.

The New Warriors take on four super baddies. Nitro explodes, killing 600 people and wrecking part of the city. The government responds by proposing a bill that would require all "superheroes" to register and work for Uncle Sam. The Human Torch is beaten outside of a nightclub. The heroes gather to discuss the new bill and there is a definite split between them. Cap meets with Director Hill of SHIELD and finds himself in conflict with the spy organization. Iron Man tells the president to go ahead and pass the registration bill and he will take care of the dissenters. The Civil War has begun.
