Chew #30
Rob Guillory's cover for this 2012 Image series delivers one of the more memorable wedding-cake images you'll find in comics: a tiered, rose-decorated confection topped with a heart arch reading "Matrimony," a groom figure in a turban and tuxedo — and, in place of a bride, a single severed finger dripping blood onto the frosting. It's the perfectly unsettling visual shorthand Chew does so well, blending domestic ceremony with visceral wrongness. John Layman and Rob Guillory bring "Space Cakes" to its fifth and final chapter here, and the cover promises the series hasn't lost its taste for the grotesque.
