The remaining Challengers surrender and are taken prisoner aboard a submarine. Kingge tells them, "Count yourselves lucky you were picked by Hegemony"... The Challengers are flown to a tropical island to meet the brains behind the Hegemony named Mae Nash Price, world's richest woman, supposedly killed in 1947! Price brags about how the Hegemony secretly rules the world by creating mind-slaves and keeping the rich young through gene-tooling and that the Challengers were hand-picked from "contrarians" and secretly programmed into "sleeping tigers", useful for assassinations or other assignments.
