“Debts”

In "Debts," Cerebus finds himself in a tight spot—deep in debt to some very unpleasant creditors—and decides to turn the tables with a bold, if risky, plan. He lures a wealthy patron to dinner, gets him thoroughly drunk, and pitches a wildly extravagant scheme involving gold streetlamps in Palnu, all while navigating the ever-watchful eye of the matchless Moon Roach. Written and illustrated by Dave Sim, this issue blends sharp satire with the series’ signature surreal flair, delivering a story that’s as clever as it is unpredictable. The cover, also by Dave Sim, captures the moment’s tension with his unmistakable style.

When Cerebus is informed that he is heavily in debt, and his debtors are not very friendly, he devises a scheme to save himself. He simply invites a very wealthy man to dinner, gets him stinking drunk, and solicits a massive payment to investigate installing solid gold streetlamps in Palnu. It all goes very well, right up to the point that the very wealthy man becomes a very dead man at the hands of the matchless Moon Roach.
