Part two of "The Secret of the Universe" arrives in November 1995, and Jim Balent's cover makes the stakes viscerally clear: Catwoman is engulfed by a writhing swarm of rats, her expression caught between fury and alarm, while Batman looms behind her in equally desperate straits — the stone walls around them alive with gnawing, clambering vermin. It's a genuinely unsettling image that sells the horror-tinged side of Gotham storytelling Alan Grant does so well, with Balent's linework giving every rat a menacing personality of its own.
