The opening chapter of this five-issue Marvel limited series kicks off with a striking cover by Ed McGuinness and Dexter Vines: Captain Marvel in his red-and-black costume surges forward with glowing energy crackling around his fists, the familiar eight-pointed star blazing at his chest against a dark, fiery backdrop. Writer Brian Reed and artist Lee Weeks bring an intensity to this 2008 series that's immediately telegraphed by that determined, focused expression on the hero's face. A strong starting point for a story that wastes no time announcing its presence.
