In "The Hard Sell," Captain America finds himself caught in a twisted game of deception when the Serpent Society captures the corpse of Modok for AIM. Porcupine, desperate to leave his life of villainy behind, tries to sell his costume to Cap—only to be drawn into a trap where Cap pretends to be captured to expose the Society. Written by Gruenwald and illustrated by Neary, with inks by Janke and colors by Feduniewicz, this 1986 issue features a tense, character-driven showdown that ends in tragedy. The Serpent Society captures the dead body of Modok for AIM. Porcupine is trying to sell his costume to get out of the super villain life but his only taker is Captain America. Cap pretends to be captured by Porcupine to flush out the Serpent Society and, during the ensuing battle, Porcupine falls on one of his own quills and dies.
