“Enemy: Chapter Three - Soft Targets”

John Cassaday's cover for this 2002 Marvel Knights issue turns a classic wartime recruitment image on its head — a red-gloved fist punches through a star-spangled field, tearing open the American flag itself, with the pointed challenge "Are You Doing Your Part?" aimed squarely at the reader. It's a striking, unsettling riff on propaganda aesthetics that feels very much of its post-9/11 moment. John Ney Rieber's "Soft Targets" arc continues here, and this cover alone makes a compelling case for what this creative team was doing with Steve Rogers in 2002.
