Later, Candy invites a boy over to watch a special television program featuring singer Ronald La Rue, but when her mother leaves them alone, the boy's presence causes her friend to become jealous. A stray cat then invades the house, creating mayhem that attracts the police, who scold Candy for failing to control the disturbance.
Candy O'Connor spots a department store raffle for a mink coat—the perfect surprise gift for her mother—and enters without realizing married women only need apply. When her number gets drawn and a store representative shows up for an interview, Candy has to scramble to convince everyone she's actually Mrs. O'Connor, enlisting her friend Ted Dawson to play along as her husband while her mother remains unsuspectingly in the dark. But keeping up the charade gets trickier by the minute as Candy tries to produce a baby and keep her mother from ruining the surprise.
Jonesy's got his eye on Linda Logan, but there's one problem: she's already Knuckles McMaul's girl, and Knuckles doesn't take kindly to competition. When Jonesy's pal Jeepers hatches a scheme to get him on the track team, it sets off a wild chase that turns the lovesick teen into an unlikely sprinting sensation—all while dodging an angry rival and winning over the girl he's been chasing.
