A elderly man warns her that a truck will hit her, and when she ignores the warning, he saves her life by pushing her out of harm's way. Grateful, Candy agrees to attend the lodge dance with him that evening as repayment. Meanwhile, Orville becomes jealous when Ted gives Candy an orchid, and he eventually reveals the flower to a judge at the ice rink who influences the judges' decision. At the dance, the dean warns Candy's date not to get drunk on whiskey, and she worries that Cosmo Gwynne might ruin the evening by getting the dean to limit visitors to once a week.
When Ted Dawson sneaks into the Winter Formal disguised with a fake beard to dance with Candy O'Connor after Dean Wrinkleberry bans him from attending, his scheme to fool everyone backfires in hilarious fashion. As Cosmo Crumworthy threatens to expose Ted's masquerade to the Dean, a chaotic collision at the dance reveals a secret that puts both boys in an awkward position with their authority figure. What happens next depends on whether Dean Wrinkleberry's concern for his own reputation outweighs his anger at Ted's rule-breaking.
