The series was conceived by Ringo Award-winning writer David Pepose, who pitched the book alongside artist Mike Henderson and colorist Arif Prianto; Pepose has described the series' core concept in interviews as 'Edge of Tomorrow meets The Fault in Our Stars — with the Techno-Organic Virus,' framing Avery Ryder's shared condition as the key to unlocking a new emotional dimension for Cable rather than a supporting-cast device. The series was edited by Tom Brevoort, with covers by Ian Churchill, and was announced ahead of its January 2025 launch via X-Men Monday at AIPT, where Pepose discussed how Henderson's character designs — including Avery Ryder — were developed collaboratively.
