Buffy the Vampire Slayer #7
Issue #7 of Dark Horse's Buffy the Vampire Slayer series delivers a genuinely unsettling cover by penciler Hector Gómez — three young women in pajamas are caught mid-panic inside a bedroom window, with Buffy herself at center defiantly raising her arm, while a menacing pack of werewolf-like creatures closes in from every side, including one crouching ominously at the bottom of the frame. It's a wonderfully tense composition that captures a slumber party gone very, very wrong. With Andi Watson and Dan Brereton on writing duties and Gómez's linework brought to life by Sandu Florea's inks and Guy Major's moody 1999 colors, "New Kid on the Block Part 2" looks like essential Slayer reading.
