“Harvest of Fear”

"Harvest of Fear" kicks off Brothers of the Spear #1 with a tense clash of loyalty and betrayal in the heart of Tungelu. Written by Jerry O'Hara and Russ Manning, and brought to life by artist Jesse Santos—whose dynamic interior art and cover pencils and inks define the issue’s stark, urgent tone—this story follows Dan-El and Natongo as they race to save their city from a secret siege by witch-men and their Tuareg allies. When the queens are taken, the duo’s desperate rescue mission ignites a fierce stand against the invaders, setting the stage for a battle that will test every bond in the kingdom.

Nagopa and his witch-men use their dwarf slaves to surreptitiously fire the granaries of Tungelu and Aba-Zulu. When Dan-El and Natongo are absent seeking aid from King Molithi, the witch-men send in Tuaregs to capture the capital and the queens. Slipping into the city, Dan-El and Natongo rescue the queens, who join them in their fight. With support from Molithi they retake the city, routing the witch-men.
