Number One attempts to prove her superior intellect and abilities by sabotaging a military installation, setting fires and explosions while accusing the Blackhawks of being responsible. The issue includes a secondary story, "Salty Waters," about a retired naval skipper who receives a collection of tropical fish as a farewell gift and experiences a fantastical encounter with mermaids at sea. The Blackhawks ultimately pursue Number One and fight through her sabotage scheme to stop her criminal plot.
Chop Chop stumbles into a scheme to help an elderly vendor named Hu Hee recover yak tails stolen by crooks at a fantan game, which leads him straight into the den of the unscrupulous Honest Wong and his associate Chu Gum. With pencils and inks by Bill Ward, this 1949 adventure pits Chop Chop against a curio shop full of hatchetmen in a race to recover the goods before the stakes get even worse.
The Blackhawks face their toughest challenge yet when a mysterious villain called Captain Suicide and his invisible Phantom Bomber Squadron begin terrorizing defense factories with raids no radar can detect. Framed by sabotage and facing public suspicion, the team must uncover the truth behind the phantom attacks and stop Captain Suicide before he strikes again—all while fighting to clear their own names.
