Blackacre #2
Issue two of Image's Blackacre keeps the tension wound tight, with Brian Churilla's cover depicting a grim-faced man crouched in dense foliage, sighting down a scoped assault rifle at three looming silhouetted figures — each wearing a distinctive pendant — that tower over him against a muted crosshair background. The composition does a fine job of conveying both menace and desperation, the lone gunman dwarfed by shadowy adversaries who seem anything but unaware. Duffy Boudreau and Wendell Cavalcanti's 2013 series continues to look like one of the more intriguing dystopian thrillers Image was publishing that year.
