Black Road #2

The second chapter of Brian Wood's Viking-age series carries a title — "Daughter of Rome" — that hints at clashing worlds, and Garry Brown's cover sets the mood perfectly: two figures stand silhouetted against a settlement consumed by churning red and blue flames, dark birds scattering into a turbulent sky above them. Dave McCaig's colors give the scene a raw, almost watercolor wildness that makes the violence feel both elemental and immediate. If issue one drew you into Magnus the Black's brutal northern world, this one looks ready to push him deeper into it.
