Black Fury #39
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis December 1962 Charlton issue features a tense Western cover by Dick Giordano, where a determined cowboy crouches beside the striking black horse Black Fury, hat knocked to the ground, gun in hand, vowing revenge — "You stole my mare… you stampeded our horses… you ruined me… but now I'm gonna get even!" — while riders stir up dust in the distant background. The featured story, "The Palomino Mare," sets up a tale of wrongdoing and frontier justice, with interior work on "The Killer Brand" provided by writer Joe Gill and artist Rocco Mastroserio. It's a satisfying slice of early-'60s Western comics energy, anchored by Giordano's expressive, clean linework on the cover.
