Bonney is fishing peacefully when a whip-crack of thunder startles him, causing him to spill his coffee pot. He must face off against outlaws attempting to capture him. "Billy the Kid in On the Dodge" features the young outlaw attempting to evade a lawman by using a whip as a weapon while being pursued across desert terrain. The issue also includes a Black Fury story in which Native Americans pursue the wild mustang Black Fury across desert landscape with saguaro cacti, planning to use ropes to capture him, though Black Fury ultimately escapes and protects the horses under his care from their hunters.
