“The Right Thing”

In "The Right Thing," Betty and Chuck spark a surprising trend with their hand-decorated sneakers, only to face a schoolwide ban from Principal Weatherbee—until a surprising twist from Superintendent Hassle turns the tables. Written by George Gladir and brought to life with vibrant art by Stan Goldberg, inks by John Lowe, and colors by Barry Grossman, this 2007 issue captures the classic Archie charm with a clever, seasonal twist. The cover by Jeff Shultz and Bob Smith perfectly captures the playful energy of the moment.

Betty and Chuck create a craze for sneakers hand-decorated by Chuck. Mr. Weatherbee bans the bizarre footwear and sends them to detention. But Superintendent Hassle, who finds girls in other schools getting frostbite due to the fad of wearing sandals in winter, congratulates Weatherbee on shrewdly setting up a healthier counter-fad. The delighted principal frees Chuck and Betty, and embraces the decorated sneakers.
