Betty #167
In "The Big Competition," the usual beach day falls flat when the waves don’t cooperate, sending Veronica and the gang scrambling for a better time—only to find her house already taken over by Mrs. Lodge’s Garden Club, who’ve commandeered the pool and home theater. With the Lodge house buzzing with activity, Betty and Archie finally retreat to Betty’s quiet house, seeking peace and privacy. Written by George Gladir and brought to life with Stan Goldberg’s vibrant art and John Lowe’s crisp inks, this 2007 issue captures the charm and casual chaos of teenage life, with a cover by Stan Goldberg and Bob Smith that perfectly frames the moment.

When the waves at the beach don't look promising, Veronica invites the gang over to her house to try the wave-making machine in the Lodges' swimming pool. But Mrs. Lodge's Garden Club is meeting at the house, and the kids from the Club are either swimming or watching movies in the Lodges' home theatre. Finally, Betty and Archie decide to go to Betty's house where it’s very quiet and they have plenty of privacy.
