In "Ein Schutzengel namens Begierde (5)", Guts, barely clinging to life after defeating the Graf, opens a portal to a hellish realm where the Five of the God Hand dwell—godlike demons who grant the Graf eternal existence. Though weakened to the point of collapse, Guts finds himself locked in a desperate, silent bond with one of the God Hand, a being he calls Griffith, whose presence is both a torment and a shield against the abyss.

In a haunting flashback, Guts recalls a moment when he stood alongside Griffith on the battlefield—long before the Eclipse, before betrayal, before the weight of loss. Now, in the present, he faces a new kind of darkness as the Graf, consumed by his own desperate need to return, is forced to choose between his daughter Theresia and his lingering existence. With Puck at his side and Theresia’s fate hanging in the balance, Guts must confront the echoes of the past as the God Hand fade into silence and the living world is reclaimed.

In the years before the final story’s events, mercenary leader Gambino discovers a seemingly dead infant beneath a tree hung with corpses. Though his men see the child as ill omen, his wife Sis revives the boy and names him Guts. As the years pass, Guts grows strong—yet his early life is marked by loss, including the death of Sis to the plague, and a harsh upbringing under Gambino, who trains the boy to fight with swords far too large for his small frame.
