Beowulf #1
IDW's 2007 adaptation of Beowulf opens with a cover by Mark A. Nelson that layers the epic's world in rich blues and molten golds — a warrior's silhouette crouches in the foreground, blade drawn, while an aged, white-bearded king looms large above a great mead-hall in the background. Surrounding them are lurking monstrous figures, their glowing eyes and jagged teeth pressing in from the shadows, evoking the dread that haunts the legendary poem. Based on the screenplay by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary, with story craft from Chris Ryall and art by Gabriel Rodriguez, this first issue promises a vivid, atmospheric retelling of one of literature's oldest heroic tales.
