Batwoman #23

Part of DC's New 52 initiative, Batwoman #23 (October 2013) continues the "This Blood Is Thick" arc with a cover by J. H. Williams III that is as arresting as anything in the run. A striking red-drenched composition surrounds a central figure rendered in stark black and white — wild-haired and seemingly overwhelmed — while Batwoman herself struggles in the upper right, a looming Batman silhouette, a glowering skull, and swirling spectral forms press in from every direction. Writers Williams III and W. Haden Blackman, with interior art by Trevor McCarthy, keep this series at the forefront of the New 52's most visually distinctive titles.
