“Chapter One: Who I Am How I Came to Be”

"Chapter One: Who I Am How I Came to Be" from Batman: Year One – The Deluxe Edition (2017) captures the raw, grounded genesis of Gotham’s Dark Knight and a cop determined to clean the city from within. Written by Frank Miller and illustrated with gritty precision by David Mazzucchelli—whose pencils and inks define the cover—this landmark story follows Bruce Wayne’s first steps into vigilantism and Jim Gordon’s brutal initiation into a corrupt police force. A single bat’s flight becomes a turning point, igniting a transformation that will shape two destinies.
