On Earth -44, after the death of Alfred at the hands of Gotham's villains, Batman, with the help of Cyborg, develops the Alfred Protocol, a computer program with Alfred's personality to help guide Bruce. In an effort to protect Bruce, the Alfred program murders the villains of Arkham, and then infects Bruce, turning him into a machine-like being capable of murder. Learning that Earth -44 is doomed, Batman the Murder Machine travels to Earth 0 to help Barbatos to take over the world, leading him into a conflict with Cyborg.
