Part five of eight in "War Games: Act Three," this December 2004 installment of Batman: Gotham Knights carries a cover by Jae Lee that is quietly devastating — Batman looms over a weeping stone angel monument, his dark cape enveloping the scene, while a shrouded figure adorned with a single red rose lies motionless at the base. The muted, near-monochromatic palette makes that lone splash of crimson all the more striking, lending the image a mournful, funereal weight. Written by A. J. Lieberman with interior art by Al Barrionuevo and Francis Portella, this is a compelling chapter in one of 2004's most ambitious Batman crossover arcs.
