Batman: Gotham Knights #22

Part of the 2001 "Joker: Last Laugh" crossover event, this issue of Batman: Gotham Knights takes a deeply unsettling approach to its cover: a purple bowler hat — unmistakably the Mad Hatter's — lies flat on a glossy surface while hundreds of red and green beetles swarm across it and spiral outward in concentric rings. The cover art by Ed McGuinness (pencils) and Jason Martin (inks) makes the creep factor feel almost tactile, letting that single hat speak volumes about what "Bugged Out" might have in store. Writer Devin Grayson, artist Roger Robinson, and inker John Floyd round out a creative team that clearly isn't shy about getting under your skin — literally.
