Batman Beyond #17

Batman Beyond #17 (March 2001) finds Terry McGinnis's sleek black-and-red Batsuit pressed against a brick wall as a writhing mass of rats surges up from below — it's an unsettling, atmospheric cover by Brian Stelfreeze that makes the most of shadow and tight angles. The story is titled "A Sinking Ship," and that ominous swarm surrounding the Dark Knight of tomorrow sets a wonderfully creepy tone. Writer Hilary Bader and artist Craig Rousseau deliver another chapter in this animated-series-inspired series that consistently proves Neo-Gotham has dangers all its own.
