Batman '66 #5
Inspired by the beloved classic TV series, this January 2014 issue of Batman '66 puts the Sandman front and center — his drowsy-eyed face looming large in the foreground as Batman and Robin float helplessly above, succumbing to what appears to be his sleep-inducing gas. Michael Allred's cover art is a pure delight, rendered in that bright, clean pop aesthetic perfectly suited to the '66 world, with a circling cascade of "Z"s driving home the Sandman's soporific threat. Batgirl gets a vivid spotlight medallion in the corner, promising her presence in a story by writer Jeff Parker that looks to be a thoroughly fun ride through Gotham's campier golden age.
