Batman #48
Part eight of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's "Superheavy" arc arrives with one of the most quietly haunting covers of 2016: the Batman cowl, half-submerged in a dense bed of wildflowers and roses, white daisies resting across the mask while a slack jaw and exposed throat suggest something far from triumphant. Capullo and Miki's cover art strips away the Dark Knight's usual power and replaces it with an eerie stillness that feels more elegy than action. It's a beautifully unsettling image that makes this issue genuinely hard to put back on the shelf.
