History

The issue was written by Alan Grant, a Scottish writer who had honed his craft on Judge Dredd in 2000 AD before transitioning to American comics; his initial DC work with John Wagner on the 12-issue Outcasts miniseries paved the way for the pair to begin writing Batman in Detective Comics from issue #583 onward, with Norm Breyfogle as their primary artistic collaborator across the various Batman titles. By the time Batman #460 went on sale (January 24, 1991, for a March 1991 cover date), Grant was writing the main Batman title solo, with Denny O'Neil serving as editor and Kelley Puckett as assistant editor — the same editorial structure O'Neil had overseen for several years post-Crisis. The interior inks on this issue were supplied by Tim Sale rather than Breyfogle's usual inkers, a circumstance that gives the issue a slightly different texture than the surrounding run.
