The Joker is throwing himself a birthday party — and Batman, Robin, and an unnamed civilian are all bound with rope atop a giant cake as the Clown Prince of Crime laughs maniacally, flames blazing behind them and a promise of "fireworks" on his lips. José Luis García-López's cover crackles with tension and dark humor, capturing the Joker at his most gleefully theatrical. Len Wein and Walt Simonson's "Dreadful Birthday, Dear Joker...!" looks like one March 1980 celebration nobody asked to attend.
