On a trip to Okinawa, Barbara Gordon accidentally meets up with old friend Kai Ma. Barbara is intent on meeting 1940's superhero Chiyo Yamashiro, aka Fruit Bat, still alive at 104. Barbara meets Chiyo the next day at a parade but gets involved in a fight with a kabuki-faced school girl who is beating up Kai, demanding a 'formula'. Amazingly, Fruit Bat appears to stop the fight and send the school girl running. She gives Barbara some advice on how to proceed with her life and from this she decides she must go to a martial arts tournament in Singapore.
