From the pen of Brian Michael Bendis and with cover art by John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson, this 2011 installment of The Avengers delivers a striking image that commands attention. A massive golden gauntlet dominates the foreground, its fingers splayed as brilliant beams of multicolored light erupt upward — and within those beams, the faces of what appear to be powerful figures, including a snarling red-skinned figure and a silver-helmeted visage, loom ominously. The composition has a real sense of cosmic scale and dread, making issue #9 a visually arresting chapter in Marvel's flagship team title.
