Avengers 1959 #2
Part two of this Cold War-tinged five-issue Marvel limited series delivers a cover that perfectly captures its era of spy-thriller danger: a square-jawed man in a black suit — pistols in both hands — shares a tense kiss with a woman in a striking red dress, while a horde of zombie-like figures, including a dark-clad female undead, closes in through the fog behind them. Howard Chaykin's linework, colored by Jesus Aburtov, gives the whole scene a moody, pulp-noir atmosphere that feels right at home in 1959. It's the kind of image that promises intrigue, romance, and something much more sinister lurking just around the corner.
