Attack #59
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis September 1959 Charlton war title puts readers right in the thick of combat tension — the cover by Rocco "Rocke" Mastroserio and Vince Alascia depicts a grimly determined soldier in helmet and field gear, rifle clutched tight, surrounded by urgent cries of "Hey Joe!" and "Help Joe!" echoing across a haunted jungle backdrop. The cover copy sets up the featured story, "Hey Joe!," asking how much one man can endure when the darkness around him won't stop calling his name. Writer Joe Gill and artist/inker Sam Glanzman bring their combined talents to the interior, and as a bonus the back cover promotes a "Giant Contest" with a regulation-size Buster Crabbe swimming pool as the grand prize — a wonderfully of-its-era touch that makes this issue a genuine snapshot of 1959 comics culture.
