Archie's Pal Jughead Comics #212 (May 2012) is the sixth chapter of the multi-part story arc 'A Jughead in the Family,' one of the more ambitious serialized storylines to run in the long-lived Jughead solo title in its final years of publication. The issue lands only two numbers before the series' permanent cancellation with #214, making it part of the closing chapter of a run that had been continuous under various titles since 1949. Most significantly for collectors, this issue falls within the same 2012 publication window as the debut of Toni Topaz — an African-American character with distinctive pink hair who would go on to become one of the few pre-reboot Archie Comics creations to earn a prominent role in the CW television adaptation Riverdale, where actress Vanessa Morgan portrayed her as a series regular from Season 3 onward.

The Archie's Pal Jughead Comics second volume launched in 1987 as a relaunch numbered from #1, and was renamed from plain 'Jughead' back to 'Archie's Pal Jughead Comics' with issue #46 in June 1993. The series concluded in 2012 with issue #214, and #212 was therefore among the very final issues produced before the title was retired ahead of the 2015 New Riverdale relaunch. Toni Topaz — introduced in that same early-2012 window in Jughead Double Digest #176 by writer Tom DeFalco and artist Ron Frenz — represents the most historically notable new character to emerge from this era of Jughead publishing.
