Archie's Pal Jughead Annual #2
Archie's Pal Jughead Annual #2 holds a meaningful place in Archie Comics history as the final pre-Comics Code Authority issue in the Jughead Annual series, arriving on newsstands in January 1954 before the industry-wide adoption of the Code later that year. Its bumper 100-page format showcased the full breadth of the early-1950s Archie universe in a single package, bringing together the core Riverdale cast alongside crossover characters from sister titles — including Katy Keene, her sister Sis, and Wilbur Wilkin with Laurie Lake — at a moment when Archie Publications was actively expanding its line. The issue is also an early ensemble appearance of Dilton Doiley alongside his Riverdale High classmates, capturing the character at a formative stage just a few years after his name was first standardized in comic books.

The issue was published by Archie Comic Publications with an on-sale date of January 4, 1954, as confirmed by copyright registration. Art duties were shared among three of the studio's primary workhorses of the period — Bill Vigoda, George Frese, and Samm Schwartz — with at least one story scripted by Frank Doyle, who was becoming one of the publisher's most prolific writers at the time. The Jughead Annual series followed the same 100-page, $0.25 oversized format established by the Archie Annual line, giving Archie Publications a higher-page-count vehicle for anthology storytelling that packed in more strips and characters than the standard monthly could accommodate.
