Arak / Son of Thunder #45
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeArak cradles a limp, green-skinned woman in his arms on this striking June 1985 cover, a burst of yellow-green energy radiating behind them while a tiny winged fairy and a crowd of ghostly figures haunt the background — all rendered with bold linework by cover artist Tony DeZuniga. Titled "She That Hath Wings…," the issue promises the kind of sword-and-sorcery atmosphere that made DC's barbarian hero such a compelling corner of their early '80s lineup. With Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, and R. J. M. Lofficier on the script and interior art by Gérald Forton and Tony DeZuniga, this is a finely crafted entry in Arak's ongoing saga.

The companions are amazed when a mute, green, winged woman lands on their ship while they are at port. Soldiers approach and demand her return, but (after coming ashore), she flies off, carrying a love-smitten Alsind with her. Arak and friends follow to retrieve their friend but, when they finally catch up to the lovers, the winged woman tries to keep Alsind away from them. The truth comes out when she transforms into a huge slug, a scion of the Serpent Lord. She didn't really see Alsind as a lover; he was going to be her lunch! Luckily, Arak manages to destroy the beast with fire.
