Arak is captured by cave-dwellers and meets their other prisoners: an old man and his daughters. The fearful captors hope to appease a dragon by giving it the two girls. Arak convinces them to let him fight the dragon and the old man accompanies him. He claims to be an alchemist and he only needs one more ingredient to make a powder that will turn anything to gold; he just doesn't know what that ingredient is. They arrive in time to rescue the girls (with Satyricus' help) and, during the battle, Arak is killed and the old man finds out the hard way that his missing ingredient is dragon saliva.
