In "Eyeless in Asia," Arak and his companions draw near to the fabled city of White Cathay, where a warning from Johannes forbids them from gazing directly at its radiant glow. When Valda’s curiosity leads her to look up as a rare roc passes overhead, she’s struck blind by the city’s magical mirror—but a cure lies in the creature’s distant nest, sending Satyricus on a perilous climb. Arak must then risk everything to bring him back, and in the end, Valda finds forgiveness where she least expected it.
