Arak / Son of Thunder #19
In "Eyeless in Asia," Arak and his companions draw near to the legendary city of White Cathay, where a warning echoes: do not gaze upon its radiant glow. When Valda is blinded by the city’s magical mirror during a passing roc’s flight, the group must act fast—Satyricus climbs a treacherous cliff to find a cure in the roc’s nest, leading Arak on a perilous rescue. Written by Roy and Dann Thomas, with dynamic art by Adrian Gonzales and inks by Alfredo Alcala, this 1983 issue blends ancient wonder with heartfelt redemption. The cover, also by Alcala, captures the moment of awe and danger with striking precision.

Now within sight of White Cathay, Arak and his band of followers are warned by Johannes not to look directly upon the glow of the city in the distance. But, Valda can't help but look up when a rare roc flies by overhead, and she's blinded by the glare of Cathay's magic mirror. However, a cure for the blindness can be found in the roc's nest, and Satyricus rapidly climbs a cliffside to retrieve it. Of course, Arak then needs to rescue Satyricus, but all ends well and Valda's sight is restored. In return, she finally forgives Satyricus for his attempted seduction of her when they first met.
