Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis #48

The "Day of the Fisherman!" story arc kicks off in this March 2007 installment of Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis, with a cover by Butch Guice that pulls no punches — Aquaman in his scaled orange-and-gold armor strains against a mass of coiling, serpentine tentacles while a masked, teal-clad figure looms menacingly at his side. The sense of desperate, underwater-world struggle is palpable, with those writhing appendages threatening to engulf the hero entirely. Writer Kurt Busiek and artist Ricardo Villagrán bring their talents to "Gate of Shadow Part One: Here Be Monsters," promising the kind of deep-sea danger the title does so well.
