Aquaman #59

The bold cover by Eric Battle and Norm Rapmund sets an urgent tone for "Drugs of Choice" — Aquaman, wild-haired and fists clenched, charges forward alongside a dark-clad male ally and a blue-skinned female warrior, all three diving into a chaotic underwater scene littered with dazed figures and a massive armored creature wreathed in eerie green vapor. That subtitle, "Drug Raid!", leaves little doubt that the King of the Seven Seas is taking the fight straight to some very dangerous underwater contraband. Writers Erik Larsen and Gary Carlson, with artist Eric Battle, were clearly swinging for something grittier and more street-level than Aquaman's usual deep-sea adventures in this September 1999 chapter.
